✻ today i was super excited about going to my first swedish class. id booked in a ten week course at a language school near my house and was so looking forward to finally getting cracking at it!
i arrived to class enthusiastic and optimistic, pen and notebook ready, space having been cleared in my scattered brain to store some new swenglish that i could hopefully use to impress jerry later on....

i like to judge people quickly. sometimes i try not to, but cant help it. today i summed up the teacher in ten minutes and knew he wasn't good enough to be my teacher.
being a qualified and experienced language teacher myself, i admit i may be over-critical and demanding, but from my many years teaching (and studying) in classrooms, i know how things should be done...

firstly a class has to be fun, which means high energy, movement, games, races, activities that make the students laugh. and secondly, any good beginners class should have the students talking 80 per cent of the time and the teacher only 20..

the swedish teacher talked 100 per cent of the class. the first hour was spent listening to the alphabet, then the next hour watching the teacher flip through books and fiddle around with the bullshit hi-tech media and waste our time. we were all falling asleep. one guy got up and left..... in the entire two hour class i produced three sentences... 'my name is anna', 'i'm from australia' and 'my boyfriend is swedish'...
im not paying £200 for that. i can learn all that AND 'your mothers a whore' for free AND with a pirate skånska accent to boot.

so i called the language school and told them i want to be transferred to the next course in october, only if it's a different teacher....and it better be a good one.
